Missing teeth? There’s an implant plan for that.

Select what brought you here to see how Dr. Haywood approaches it, whether you’re missing one tooth, several or all of them.

One missing tooth

A single implant replaces both the root and the crown without touching the teeth on either side. In this office it is regularly less expensive and more conservative than a bridge.

A tooth that has to come out

The implant can often be placed at the same visit the tooth is removed. A back tooth may be left to heal for 6–8 weeks before its crown goes on, which can also lower the overall cost.

A missing front tooth

Front implants are harder because the bone is often thinner. Smaller implants, custom ceramic posts and computer-guided surgery are almost always used, and grafting or orthodontics is considered first.

Several teeth gone in a row

An implant bridge uses two or more implants to hold three or more joined teeth, so you don’t need an implant for every gap. It suits lost back teeth or a few front teeth.

A denture that slips or rubs

Snap-on implant teeth clip onto implants in your jaw so they stay secure. The upper set is horseshoe-shaped and leaves your palate uncovered, unlike a bulkier full denture.

Wanting teeth that stay put

Fixed full-arch teeth are screwed or cemented onto four or more implants, and only the practice removes them. They don’t move when you eat, and a spare set is always made.

Told there isn’t enough bone

A 3D cone beam CT scan shows exactly how much bone you have and where. If grafting is needed, you’ll know at the planning visit, before any surgery is scheduled.

A plan from another office

Patients often bring implant proposals from other offices, including large chain centers. Second opinions here are complimentary, with a personal plan and the full range of implant options.

Worried about the cost

Options run from a few implants under snap-on teeth to a fully fixed arch, and with snap-on teeth more implants can often be added later. Financing is available through CareCredit and Cherry.

Coming from Baltimore or Towson

Patients come to Timonium from Towson, Hunt Valley, Baltimore and Shrewsbury, PA, because the CT scan, planning, extractions, implant placement and final teeth all happen in one local office.

01

Consultation and 3D scan

A full exam with x-rays or a cone beam CT scan, and a talk about your health history. Dr. Haywood listens to what you need and explains every option.

02

A digital implant plan

Your implants are placed on screen first. When guided surgery is advisable, a 3D-printed surgical guide is made from that plan and checked by Dr. Haywood.

03

Placing the implants

The implants go into the planned position in your jawbone. Where needed, temporary teeth let you chew comfortably while bone fuses around them.

04

Your final teeth

Once the implants have integrated, your crown, bridge or full-arch teeth are made. A single tooth can be restored in as little as 6–8 weeks after surgery.

There’s more than one way to replace teeth. Let’s find yours.

Every implant plan starts with how many teeth are missing, how much bone is there and what matters most to you. These are the main ways implants replace teeth here.

Single tooth implant

An implant, a connecting post and a porcelain crown replace one tooth without touching its neighbors. You brush and floss it just like a natural tooth.

Implant bridge

Two or more implants support three or more joined teeth. It costs less than an implant for every missing tooth, though you’ll need a floss threader to clean under it.

Snap-on implant teeth

Removable teeth snap onto implants, usually four or five on top and at least two below. It costs less than fixed teeth, and implants can often be added later.

Fixed full-arch teeth

A complete set of teeth screwed or cemented onto four or more implants, sometimes called all-on-four. The most natural chewing, and the most costly option.

Your questions,

A full exam is the only way to know. Dr. Haywood reviews x-rays or a cone beam CT scan to check the quality and quantity of your bone, and goes over your health history. Active gum disease is treated first, and thin bone can often be built up with grafting. Smokers can have implants, though they are somewhat less successful. Read about single tooth implants.

It depends on your case, so a fee is only quoted after your exam and scan. Simple cases cost less than complex ones. The number of implants, the kind of teeth they hold, whether grafting or a surgical guide is needed, and your choice of materials all affect the total. Implants can cost a little more up front than other options, but they are built to last. Book an implant consultation.

The practice is out of network with insurance companies: you pay at the time of service and the office files the paperwork on your behalf for maximum reimbursement. Health savings and flex plans are welcome, and flexible financing is available through CareCredit and Cherry. See financing options.

A cone beam CT scan builds a 3D picture of your jaw, and the implant is placed virtually in planning software first. A 3D-printed surgical guide then lets Dr. Haywood place the implant in that exact position. It matters most when bone is limited, a precise angle is needed, or several implants must line up. Not every implant needs a guide. Learn about guided implant surgery.

Yes. Snap-on implant teeth attach to implants with snap connectors, so they stay secure but still come out for cleaning. The upper set usually sits on four or five implants and leaves the palate uncovered. The lower set needs at least two, though four or more give better stability, and more can often be added later. Read about snap-on implant teeth.

Yes. Fixed full-arch teeth, sometimes called all-on-four or permanent dentures, are screwed or cemented onto at least four implants, and often more if bone is limited. They chew most like natural teeth and are the most costly option. Only the practice can remove them, so regular professional cleaning is part of the plan, and a spare set is always made. Read about fixed full-arch teeth.

Yes, and it is what most patients choose here. Front implants take more care because the bone is often thinner, so smaller implants, custom ceramic posts and computer-guided surgery are almost always used. Grafting or orthodontics may be part of the plan, coordinated with any other work so your smile looks right. Read about front tooth implants.

Not always. An implant bridge uses two or more implants to hold three or more teeth joined together, which costs less than one implant for each tooth. It works well where back teeth have been lost or a few front teeth are gone. The trade-off is cleaning: you’ll need a floss threader, and food can collect under the bridge. Read about the implant bridge.

A single tooth can be restored in as little as 6–8 weeks after surgery, and the whole process can take several months. Pain afterward is described as negligible. For the first day, eat soft food, drink plenty of fluids and avoid straws, smoking and alcohol. Leave the implant undisturbed while it heals, and avoid chewing directly on it. See implant post-op instructions.

Brush and floss your implants much like natural teeth, but give them extra attention. Cleanings every 3–4 months are recommended, and a custom night guard protects implants if you grind or clench. Fixed full-arch teeth are removed by the practice every 3–4 months so the teeth and implants can be cleaned thoroughly. Read about caring for implants.
